22 Bolt Head

22 Bolt Head sits within a block above the estuary mouth, its balconies and a spiral staircase overlooking a paved courtyard garden.

The building comes into view across the courtyard, grasses growing up around the base of the staircase and the balconies stepping up above.

An open-plan flat under skylights

Inside, the kitchen, dining table and sofa sit together under skylights, a leather sofa and coastal artwork giving the sitting end its own corner, and a dining table often set with wine glasses and a bottle of champagne for the evening. A small silver sailboat ornament and a heart-shaped wall plaque add a lived-in touch to the shelves.

Two bedrooms with a beach-hut feel

Both bedrooms sleep up to four, decorated with beach-hut paintings and nautical cushions, framed coastal prints on the walls and one with a glazed door onto its own balcony. Two shower rooms serve them, each fitted with a glazed cubicle, toilet and heated towel rail on a wood-look floor.

The balcony looks straight out over the estuary mouth: a sandy beach crowded with sunbathers below a wooded headland, and open sea beyond the cliffs at the estuary entrance.
