St Elmo Lodge

St Elmo Lodge is a substantial house set behind a gravel drive and a mature cypress tree, sleeping seven across three bedrooms with terraces on two levels looking toward the estuary.

A white five-bar gate marks the entrance, the gravel drive curving past lawns and the cypress to the front door.

A kitchen with room to gather

A white kitchen runs to a black granite island with bar stools, and a snug with bookshelves sits just off the dining table. Two separate living rooms give a choice of where to sit — one with a pink rug and television, the other furnished with an antique console table and armchair for something quieter.

Three bedrooms, including a fitted bunk room

The master bedroom has its own balcony and an ornate mirrored dresser; a second room carries a writing desk and doors onto the outside; and a children's room is fitted with its own bunk beds and a lighthouse lamp. The three bathrooms include a freestanding bath with a heated towel rail and a separate walk-in shower.

Terraces on two levels

Outside, a covered wooden terrace holds a table for six beneath the wooded hillside, and a roof terrace above it adds a built-in barbecue and its own dining set behind a glass balustrade.

The estuary from the balcony

The balcony and roof terrace both look out past the trees toward the coastline, sailing boats racing on Salcombe estuary and a small beach a little further along the coast. Salcombe's harbour sits below the hillside.

A family house with room to spread out

The bunk room and the choice of two terraces make this suited to a family with children as much as a group of friends — everyone has a bed, the barbecue and roof terrace cover a warm evening, and the snug is there when the weather turns.
