The Wood

The Wood is a big white house cut into Salcombe's wooded cliffside, seven bedrooms deep, with a decked terrace that steps out toward the sea through the trees.

The setting takes in it half-hidden among pine and oak on the hillside, its deck the only real clearing in the canopy.

A kitchen built for a crowd

A blue-cabinet kitchen with a Belfast sink and island runs into a long dining room seated on ladder-back chairs, and two separate living rooms give the house room to split up — one with a lit fireplace and a grey sofa, another with cream sofas gathered around a bay window looking over the hillside.

Seven bedrooms, most with a view

The seven bedrooms sleep up to fifteen, several with their own bay window onto the hills or the water, one with a desk tucked beside the glass. The six bathrooms include a double-vanity room set beneath a sloped ceiling with its own balcony door, and a bath positioned under a skylight.

The deck through the trees

Outside, sun loungers and a long dining table sit under umbrellas on the decking, with a second seating area of ottomans angled at the headland and a wicker sofa tucked further along. A glass balustrade keeps the drop from the cliff edge in check.

Down to the estuary

The wider setting takes in Salcombe's harbour and a secluded cove of turquoise water, both within reach of the house. Salcombe itself is close by.

Built for a full house party

Seven bedrooms and two living rooms make this a house for a big family gathering or several couples travelling together — everyone gets a bed, the kitchen can feed the whole group at once, and there's always a second sofa free when the first one fills up.
